The objective of this study was to develop better multifunction myoelectric control strategies and a myoelectric arm with which a limb amputee can do jobs such as grasp materials, lift weights, hold cups, and etc. As a result of this study, the battery-powered myoelectric arm was designed and manufactured. Because the usefulness of a prosthetic arm strongly depends on its ability to be easily controlled and on its accuracy in the resulting motions, the development of the control method was emphasized. Therefore, various myoelectric control methods were proposed and tested in this study. Test results showed that each method has its merits and disadvantages. The TSS control method was good in its ability to be applied easily and the OSSI control method might be effective in reducing the number of EMG sensors used for controlling. The NNPC control method was superior in convenience for controlling prostheses. However, the hardware needed to implement the NNPC control should be modified for practical applications
